Kennedy comes out for gay marriage — Caroline Kennedy is finally sharing some of her political opinions with the people she's campaigning to represent — casting herself in the liberal tradition of uncle Ted Kennedy, bucking Barack Obama by supporting same-sex marriage and disavowing Hillary Clinton's 2002 vote for the Iraq invasion.

Paterson Calls Higher Taxes on Wealthy Unappealing but Likely — ALBANY — Gov. David A. Paterson rolled out 137 proposed tax and fee increases last week on items including iTunes downloads and soft drinks, but there could very well be another big one to come.

UAE enters weapons deal with US The Government has signed a US$3.3 billion (Dh12.11bn) contract for American-made Patriot missiles, sealing months of negotiations and deepening military ties between the US and the UAE. The agreement, signed with the US defence contractor Raytheon, includes technology, training and supply of the medium-range missile system, which is part of a multi-tiered defensive shield the UAE Armed Forces is building to protect the nation from perceived threats in the region.

Government to provide $5m to support Afghanistan elections The Federal Government will provide $5 million to support Afghanistan elections in 2009/10. Prime Minister Kevin Rudd made the announcement after returning from Afghanistan where he met with Australian troops deployed in the region.
