Blowhard News for Thursday.

New Jersey GOP takes down ‘Obama loves America like O.J. loved Nicole’ banner from website.
After local Democrats “alleged racist campaign tactics,” the Republican Club in Pemberton, NJ removed a banner yesterday from its
website that compared Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) to O.J. Simpson. “Obama loves America like O.J. loved Nicole,” the banner read. Though the image has now been removed, Blue Jersey saved a screen shot of the offensive banner:

Reporters Dismiss McCain’s Iran ‘Joke’ As Part Of His ‘Real Guy’ Persona
Some reporters dismissed McCain’s new Iran “joke,” suggesting that it is perhaps just part of his “regular guy” persona, an endearing quality for a man running for an office that commands the world’s strongest and most advanced military:

NBC’s Chuck Todd: That’s what makes him real and that’s what makes people who disagree with him say “ah, you know what? The guy seems like any guy you’d want to have around the dinner table or the bar stool.”
CNN’s Jessica Yellin: “People who love him think his a maverick and think he’s a real guy who makes a joke off the cuff just like real people do [but]
we’re all waiting to see if something explodes, this kind of comment doesn’t.”

McCain claims ‘everything is on the table’ to fix Social Security, then quickly takes an item off the table.
During an interview with the editorial board of the Pittsburgh Tribune Review, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) contradicted himself in a matter of minutes regarding Social Security. When asked how he would “fix Social Security,” McCain first said, “You’ve got to say look, everything is on the table.” But then, minutes later, when asked if he favored “raising the cap,” McCain said, “No.” He then criticized Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) for previously saying that raising the payroll cap is “one possible option.”

McCain’s ‘Econ Brain’: America Has ‘Become A Nation Of Whiners’ And Is Just In A ‘Mental Recession’
In an interview with the Washington Times today, former senator Phil Gramm, who is Sen. John McCain’s (R-AZ) “econ brain,” blamed the state of the economy on “the conviction of many Americans that economic conditions are the worst in two or three decades.” “You’ve heard of mental depression; this is a mental recession,” said Gramm.

Gramm decried the “constant whining” of the American people when it comes to the economy because he believes “we’ve never been more dominant”:

“We have sort of become a nation of whiners,” he said. “You just hear this constant whining, complaining about a loss of competitiveness, America in decline” despite a major export boom that is the primary reason that growth continues in the economy, he said.

“We’ve never been more dominant; we’ve never had more natural advantages than we have today,” he said. “We have benefited greatly” from the globalization of the economy in the last 30 years.
