CA's Doo Dah Parade Kicks Off.

PASADENA (CBS) ―

The 31st Occasional Pasadena Doo Dah Parade will celebrate all things wacky Sunday in Old Town. The Doo Dah, the irreverent sister to the staid Tournament of Roses Parade, will be led by Reverend Billy and Savitri D of the Church of Stop Shopping and will include a cast of wacky groups ranging from the Benzedrine Monks to official house band, Snotty Scotty & the Hankies.

The parade, started in 1976, typically involves madcap revelry by farcical characters and groups such as Synchronized Briefcase Drill Team and the Bastard Sons of Lee Marvin.
Spectators have traditionally tossed tortillas along the parade route. This year's parade is expected to include a little serious satire.

Impeachment activists who disrupted "The Tonight Show" on Tuesday will march in the "L.A. National Impeachment Center" part of the parade. Some will be wearing giant caricature heads resembling President Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and carrying signs listing impeachable crimes supposedly committed by the administration.

Many Doo Dah classics - among them the Spawn of Captain James Kirk, BBQ & Hibachi Marching Grill Team and the Bastard Sons of Lee Marvin - will be back; but look out for the Motorized Cupcakes, the Big Flying Carpet, the Ineffable Off-Ramp Mysterions , the Humboldt State Marching Lumberjacks and the Circus Freak Deluxe among other newcomers.

Grand Marshal, the Rev. Billy of the Church of Stop Shopping, will provide a "little friction," and not just from his white polyester suit, Coston said. The performance artist and anti-consumerist activist, aka Bill Talen, will share the route through Old Pasadena with Code Pink, an anti-war activist group whose name is a play on the color-coded terrorist alert system.

Is this the Bush parade? One is a clown, one is the devil Bush, I guess less gory than the Bush version seen in the middle east with all the blood on his face.

How wild of you to find this Doo Dah Parade.

I happen to know Reverend Billy and the Stop Shopping Choir, He's actually Bill Talen, Who's been doing one man shows in California and elsewhere.
He rocked the house in Bolinas with a great revue, he's gotten together a great talented bunch of kids who tour a lot of the venues in small towns in the way that the San Francisco Mime Troupe does. His message is about not buying but seeing what you can give--which is the true meaning of Christmas.
Here's a link to the music and part of his show, starting with The Stop Shopping Song. Very gospel, some outstanding young black voices in the mix.

If you play the Stop Shopping Song it goes on to the rest of the album...
