The Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corp. was sued by Florida attorney David Stern, who claims he is owed $1.3 million for legal services, according to a complaint filed today.
The government-run mortgage company breached its contract with Stern’s law firm by failing to pay, according to the complaint filed in federal court in Miami.
Stern and his firm are under investigation in Florida for allegedly presenting false and misleading documents in foreclosure cases. DJSP Enterprises Inc., the foreclosure- processing business Stern runs, will stop processing home- seizure cases by the end of the month, according to a March 7 filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, which own or guarantee more than half of the U.S. mortgage market, last year barred the firm from handling their foreclosure cases after Stern came under scrutiny from the Florida attorney general’s office
