Here is recap:
The bill aims to extend health insurance to millions of Americans, set up health insurance cooperatives to offer coverage, provide subsidies to help poorer Americans afford insurance and bar insurers from denying coverage based on pre-existing conditions. It would also require individuals to buy insurance, beginning in 2013, or face penalties of up to $1,900 -- a feature of the legislation that Republicans fought hard to defeat, but ultimately lost. Read summary.
A Democratic member on the Senate committee said that he won't read Baucus' revised healthcare reform bill because it is confusing.
CNS News:
Sen. Thomas Carper (D.-Del.), a member of the Senate Finance Committee, told CNSNews.com that he does not “expect” to read the actual legislative language of the committee’s health care bill because it is “confusing” and that anyone who claims they are going to read it and understand it is fooling people.
It is amazing about the lawmakers. Here is this lawmaker that won't read the bill yet he is going to be casting his vote on a bill that he didn't read. What kind of message is he sending to the American people? Remember the Patriot Act bill? Remember the lawmakers didn't read the Patriot Act bill. Look at how that ended up.
Here is one example from Baucus bill that will leave the average person in a complete blank stare:
p.31
Personal Responsibility Requirement. Beginning in 2013, all U.S. citizens and legal residents would be required to purchase coverage through (1) the individual market, a public program such as Medicare, Medicaid, the Children‘s Health Insurance Program, Veteran‘s Health Care Program, or TRICARE or through an employer (or as a dependent of a covered employee) in the small group market, meeting at least the requirements of a bronze plan, or (2) in the large group market, in a plan with first dollar coverage for prevention-related services as recommended by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force – except in cases where value-based insurance design is used and cannot have a maximum out-of-pocket limit greater than that provided by the standards established for HSA current law limit.
Finally, here was Baucus' comment on the finished work on the healthcare reform.
The Uptake website:
This version of the health care reform bill is all amended, now it's time to vote. Bleary-eyed Senators, their staff and a room full of lobbyists stayed up past 2 AM ET Friday to finish work on the health care reform bill.
"We have a product here that accomplishes our objectives--health care reform" said Senator Max Baucus (D-Montana) who authored the bill. "It's fiscally responsible. We can all be very proud of what we've achieved here. We lowered taxes for more than 42 million Americans, protected Medicare benefits for seniors, expanded health care coverage. It builds on the employer-based system which a majority of Americans know and most can keep what they have. It helps our most vulnerable and I think we're very proud of what we're doing."
Senator Charles Grassley(R-Iowa) indicated that most of the Republicans on the Senate Finance Committee were "not likely" to vote for the bill, but "I want to applaud you for the fair process".

This whole topic gave the cat a headache.
I thought a bunch of health insurance lobbyists wrote the Baucus bill for him. Am I missing something?
