Wyoming University to dedicate ‘Cheney International Center’

The University of Wyoming plans to name a new center for international students after former Vice President Dick Cheney: a move that’s stirring conflict and protest in an otherwise conservative state.

Cheney and wife Lynn plan to attend a dedication ceremony for the Cheney International Center on Thursday, noted the Associated Press.

Protesters plan to attend as well.

“We feel that by naming it the Cheney International Center, that the programs and UW can’t avoid being identified with that ideology and that approach to global politics that the Bush-Cheney administration championed,” protester Suzanne Pelican told AP.

The university has been defending the naming of the Cheney Center ever since it came to its decision. The center was constructed with funds in-part donated by Dick Cheney over his years as vice president, with regular installments made to the university amounting to over $3.2 million. The state of Wyoming matched his contributions, and another $3 million plus has been allocated for scholarships to the Cheney Center.

“The ‘UW Students Against the Cheney International Center’ Facebook group was created by Daniel DePeyer, a graduate student in the international studies program,” noted the Wyoming News Underground. “The group allows students to post their thoughts on the naming of the center and to get information on its construction and eventual dedication.”

Yes, not too many wanted to be associated with all the evil Cheney has done, and I don't blame them for not wanting this constant reminder.

I say do it and when Cheney is indicted for War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity the School and stand proud that they named the Center after a War Criminal. Spain will get the ball rolling with the six song birds and the United Nations will bring charges against Bush and Cheney.
