The Obamas' departure from WH and arrival to Martha's Vineyard

The Obamas are officially on vacation.

Here's more:

Deputy press secretary Bill Burton was given specific instructions from President Barack Obama to the press corps.

Along with Mr. and Mrs. Obama and daughters Malia and Sasha were their dog, Bo, and the president's sister, Maya, and her family.

"He wants you to relax," Mr. Burton said. "Have a good time, take some walks on the beaches. Nobody's looking to make any news."

No set plan has been announced for what elements of the island the first family will be enjoying. The White House said that Mr. Obama had no plans to visit Senator Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.), who is battling brain cancer.

"You can bet there's going to be some golf playing. Maybe a little bit of swimming," Burton said.

Then there are the likely trips for ice cream and salt water taffy, possibly a bike ride and plenty of quiet time at a secluded 28-acre private estate that rents for $35,000 a week. The Obamas are paying for their share of the vacation home; taxpayers are picking up the tab for security and White House staff, which is customary for all presidents.
