The Republican Party is now on suicide watch. ;-)
Thinkprogress:
Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter today announced that he will be switching his party affiliation from Republican to Democrat and will run in 2010 as a Democrat. The Washington Post's Chris Cillizza writes:
Specter's decision would give Democrats a 60 seat filibuster proof majority in the Senate assuming Democrat Al Franken is eventually sworn in as the next Senator from Minnesota. (Former Sen. Norm Coleman is appealing Franken's victory in the state Supreme Court.)
"I have decided to run for re-election in 2010 in the Democratic primary," said Specter in a statement. "I am ready, willing and anxious to take on all comers and have my candidacy for re-election determined in a general election."
"Since my election in 1980, as part of the Reagan Big Tent, the Republican Party has moved far to the right. Last year, more than 200,000 Republicans in Pennsylvania changed their registration to become Democrats. I now find my political philosophy more in line with Democrats than Republicans."
CNN's Dana Bash called the news "seismic." CNN's Ed Henry said that the President heard about Specter's shift at 10:25 a.m. He then called Specter and said, "You have my full support and we're thrilled to have you." Here's the picture of Obama calling Specter.

And there is alot of very mixed reviews and shock from both sides of the party. Here is my take on this: This is certainly a huge blow to the GOP since Specter is a high ranking GOP in the Senate and the Senate committee. Democrats will certainly have their 60 votes which including the future Senator Al Franken. I am not at all a huge Specter fan. This has nothing to do with him being a GOP. But, I know partly this decision on his part is both politically and the disappointment from him of the direction of his own party. But, I do wish him the best. And this will be a quite interesting race in 2010 and the hoopla within the GOP party.
What are your thoughts?

When I first saw this I was like....wow...what's up with that?
Yes the GOP lead by the Faux Noise Network, Weasel, Falafel Factor and all the Good old blowhards are doing themselves in and taking the GOP down the drain with them..
Spector must see a sinking ship is all I can say.
I'm to old to change now and I've seen Specter for the snake he is. It started with the Warren Commission and Specter's Magic Bullet Story. Long before Harry Potter, Specter told a tale of the famous Magic Bullet. The Bullet traveled inside outside of steele and metal as it ended killing JFK. Now to distance the Magic Bullet traveled is so far and as Specter put it one might think of the TRANSFORMERS, remember them " More then Meets the eye". Well in short adults back then believed the lie hook line and sinker. I ask my Dad why he was lying my Dad said Senators don't lie. Now I believe Specter knew his district voters changed parties so in order to get back in office he had to change too. This is all for Politics and nothing about supporting the people. Now once a Snake always a Snake, President Obama better watch his back as Specter could turn on him. Now Democrats have Satan sitting at the table. I know I sound bad but I've seen, heard to much from Specter to thing otherwise. I need my friend the cat now this isn't a good day.
Can we send Lickerman to the GOP?
There's no loss there.
Sounds like a fair trade...meow
