US Vice President Joe Biden on Friday sought a "new day" in relations with Latin America ahead of a regional summit next month, as he arrived in Chile.
Biden's trip to meet regional leaders came as decades-long US influence is waning, as it has focused elsewhere in recent years, while Latin American countries have grown stronger and expanded relations with others, including China, Russia and India.
"As we confront the most serious economic crisis in generations ... we must work together, as partners, to give our citizens hope that brighter days lie ahead," Biden wrote in an op-ed published in 11 Latin American newspapers as he began a trip to Chile and Costa Rica.

Smart move as we have alot of repairing to do. For 8 years the Bush Administration treated Latin America like trash as if he were better then them. This will take a while because the hurt is deep.
