CHICAGO — Federal prosecutors here told an inquiry into the impeachment of Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich on Tuesday that it should refrain from seeking information that crosses into the government’s investigation because such action could cause significant damage to the criminal case.
In a letter earlier this week, the committee of 21 lawmakers conducting the impeachment hearing had asked Patrick J. Fitzgerald, the United States attorney who charged Mr. Blagojevich with conspiracy to commit fraud and bribery, for his guidance on how it should proceed. The legislators also requested a four-page litany of specific information, including the identities of all the witnesses who may have been granted immunity in the case, or who are cooperating with prosecutors.
In a politely worded response, Mr. Fitzgerald wrote that he had carefully considered his office’s legal obligations and the special sensitivities involved, concluding that “producing those items at this time could significantly compromise the ongoing criminal investigation.”
In addition, he said, some of the requested items are under seal by court order.
As a consequence, he added, “we must respectfully decline to produce these items at this time.”
Mr. Fitzgerald left open only one possibility, that he might consider releasing copies of wiretaps intercepted at the governor’s campaign office and from his home phone. He said he would make a decision on Wednesday.

First let's hope Lisa Lisa ask Fitz the legal questions before she makes a fool of herself again. I couldn't stop laughing with the request she made from the Court. Now it's now question about it Lisa knows nothing about Law and is just holding the title. Fitz might want to give her legal advice next time she does need a lawyer.
People have to remember G-Rod isn't indicted he just charged with a crime. Fitz only filed the complaint to stop G-Rod from continuing to do the pay to play for Obama and Emanuel's seats.
I hope Lisa Lisa bothered to read the Illinois Constitution by now.
The impeachment panel is going to have to do things those people are not used to--work and think. They know how to argue really well, and that takes no brains or work to argue and bicker. Now they have to do some real work to earn their stupid pay raises.
Those wanting a special election better read the Illinois Constitution, too.
