Interesting timing of this story as we all knew that the powers of being within the circle of politicians wanted Spitzer gone as the Governor.
(AP) Federal prosecutors announced Thursday that they will not bring criminal charges against Eliot Spitzer for his role in a prostitution scandal, removing a legal cloud that has surrounded the former governor since his epic downfall eight months ago.
Manhattan U.S. Attorney Michael Garcia said that investigators found no evidence that Spitzer or his office misused public or campaign funds for prostitution. Federal prosecutors typically do not prosecute clients of prostitution rings.
"In light of the policy of the Department of Justice with respect to prostitution offenses and the longstanding practice of this Office, as well as Mr. Spitzer's acceptance of responsibility for his conduct, we have concluded that the public interest would not be further advanced by filing criminal charges in this matter."
A remorseful Spitzer issued a statement in which he expressed relief that he will not face charges.
"I appreciate the impartiality and thoroughness of the investigation by the U.S. Attorney's Office, and I acknowledge and accept responsibility for the conduct it disclosed. I resigned my position as Governor because I recognized that conduct was unworthy of an elected official. I once again apologize for my actions," Spitzer said.

I am very, very glad to read this. I sincerely hope he can find a niche somewhere in government with his experience as 'The Sheriff of Wall Street' He the one person who warned of the collapse of the same companies who booed him, when these charges were initially brought. God knows, we now know (yet again) that the markets need to be regulated. I hope he will be able to make a positive contribution with his smarts to stem the economic crisis.

I love and respect Gov. Spitzer for his hard work and excellent value of saving Americans. As the GOP set this act out to get him removed with the help of the DOJ and Media it worked. If he had been allowed to continue his work the Stock Market would not have crashed and millions of Americans would still have their jobs, homes and life savings. But I too hope President Obama uses this brillant man who gave so much to save us without asking anything in return. I hope he joins the team and exposes those who did this to the US Economy. God works in ways we'll never understand. Gov. Spitzer will not only get his respect back but he'll be bigger then he ever could think. I for one admire him and honor him for his selfless work and not giving up on all of us. His wife knows what she has and it's one of the best. I'd vote for him in a half a second for a Legal position.
At least time and money was not wasted on this, there are many more fish that need to be caught and tryed.
Anyhow, we had an Alderman, plead guilty a couple of days ago instead of going through a long drawn out trial costing all the taxpayers money, he was Eddie Vrodolyk, first a Democrat from the far South East Side, then he turned Republican to run for Mayor, then he was caught up in the Betty Lauren Maltese GOP mess, also he was a good cohort with Judy Barr Topinka, the loud mouth obnoxious GOP close to him, and former Governor (GOP), and now inmate, George Ryan. You can see how Gov Rod Blagojevich won against her.
