Biden to pay visit to Las Cruces, NM area Friday.

LAS CRUCES — Democratic vice presidential candidate Sen. Joe Biden will host a rally Friday in the Las Cruces area, the Obama campaign announced Monday.
Campaign officials didn't reveal other specifics but said more details will be forthcoming, possibly today.

"Doña Ana County and southern New Mexico are critical to the success of the Obama-Biden campaign in New Mexico," said Parita Shaw, spokesman for the campaign in the state, in a prepared statement. "During his visit, Sen. Biden will encourage his supporters to vote early for Barack Obama, and he will talk about how an Obama-Biden administration will deliver much-needed change to New Mexico families."

Melinda Whitley, chairwoman of the Democratic Party of Doña Ana County, said she also didn't have further information. National-level campaign officials are organizing the event, she said.

"We were told we'd be getting a high-profile person or persons down here," she said. "I didn't realize it would be such a high-profile person. I guess they're just racheting it up a notch, and we're very happy about that."
