Full speech: 'I have the scars,' McCain tells RNC
Excerpt from Raw Story:
"Fight with me. Fight with me. Fight with me. Fight for what's right for our country," he said in a convention crescendo.
To repeated cheers from his delegates, McCain made only passing reference to an unpopular George W. Bush and criticized fellow Republicans as well as Democratic rival Barack Obama in reaching out to independents and swing voters who will pick the next president.
"We were elected to change Washington, and we let Washington change us," he said of the Republicans who controlled Congress for a dozen years before they were voted out of office in 2006.
As for Obama, he said, "I will keep taxes low and cut them where I can. My opponent will raise them. I will cut government spending. He will increase it."
McCain's speech was preceded by a biographical video that focused heavily on his experience as a Vietnam prisoner of war. The Republican candidate touched on that experience -- the hallmark of his biography -- toward the end of his convention address as well and used it to set up a swipe at Obama.
"I'm not running for president because I think I'm blessed with such personal greatness that history has anointed me to save our country in its hour of need," McCain said in an apparent homage to ads his campaign has produced portraying Obama as "The One." "My country saved me. My country saved me, and I cannot forget it. And I will fight for her for as long as I draw breath, so help me God."
Before McCain's speech, the climax of the final night of the party convention, delegates awarded the vice presidential nomination to Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the first female ticketmate in Republican history.
"She stands up for what's right and she doesn't let anyone tell her to sit down," McCain said of the woman who has faced intense scrutiny in the week since she was picked.
"And let me offer an advance warning to the old, big-spending, do-nothing, me-first, country-second Washington crowd: Change is coming," McCain declared.
On a side note: Inside in RNC, McCain was interrupted several times by anti-war protesters. Police hauled two women out of the arena. Also, McCain-Palin
head to Wisconsin for a morning campaign event and later in the day to Michigan and Colorado and on Saturday to New Mexico. Obama will campaign in Pennsylvania today. Biden was in Virginia yesterday.

I saw 90-95% if it, he's going to loose people on the POW like Ginger lost people on 911.
They all need to move past that... before we tire....ooopps, most of us are there already or hearing about the POW Naum days. Enough! Now what is he going to do?
All I heard is that if we drill, drill, drill for our own oil we will have more money.........pa leeze, this will take 8 years to get the wells pumping, and he said this is the answer....yep this will create jobs, then we will have our own oil. Ya, but who is going to profit from the sales? Will this make prices go down.
So that's how McCain is going to help put America back to work.....drill drill drill for oil, off shore and in Alaska. That's his big economic put America to work.
He did mention the housing problem........but that was all, no solution, not what he will do....NADA
And if Cindy did not beat the POW Viet Naum thing to death, them McCain did it.
