A plan to build an internationally run nuclear enrichment plant in Iran is gaining traction among senior US congressmen, a report says.
The plan suggests that the White House should help build an 'internationally run enrichment facility inside Iran to replace' the country's current facilities, The Boston Globe reported.
An array of diplomats and scientists and politicians in Congress are warming up to the idea, which was originally advanced by Massachusetts Institute of Technology scientists and rejected by the Bush administration three years ago.
The plan is in line with an offer by Tehran to the United Nations last month that proposed to build an international enrichment facility inside Iran.
Washington accuses Tehran of pursuing nuclear weapons. Iran, however, insists its program is solely aimed at the civilian use of the technology.
Supporters of the MIT plan believe implementing such a program would fulfill Iran's right to enriching uranium on its own soil, while preventing the nuclear substance from being diverted for military use.
Former US envoy to the UN Thomas Pickering, who co-authored an article on the proposal with Jim Walsh of MIT, John Thomson, a former British UN ambassador, and Senators Dianne Feinstein and Chuck Hagel are among those who have voiced their support for the MIT plan.

Iran has become one of the most powerful countries in the world thanks to the Bush Administration. If anyone followed the real news, you'd notice how Halliburton CEO Dick Cheney has been secretly working with Iran for 7 years with deals for Halliburton. Dick and others have been working with Syria, Iran and Turkey while lying to the American people. Yes the Media reports these countries are terrorist and no US company can make deals with them. Yes the White House sent prisoners to Syria to be tortured and Halliburton has both Iran and US contracts. Cheney knows where the money is and right now he's letting the Oil Companies get as much profit as possible. Oil supplies hasn't changed but the prices are going up for the shareholders profit. Look as more Law Makers got paid off by oil shares the more money was needed. Even the Supreme Court Justices have their shares for profit. It's a way of paying people off in kick backs but legally. Just give them shares of oil so the money can't be traced. Look you can see who's been paid off. Nancy Pelosi, Reid, Leahy and others who talk out of their butt as they smile in your face are on the take. In 2004 when Nancy became Speaker of the House she had plans but with the pay off by the White House she side stepped everything for the money. Now with a proven case for impeachment Nancy says let's pray, why because Nancy got a big kick back from the White House. Leahy was all over the White House until he got paid. Reid was in the back pocket of the White House for years but soon realized he could ask for more. Nothing is being done to correct the US because our Law Makers are on the take. We have more criminals in Government then in the US jails.
