SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - House Speaker Michael Madigan is circulating a memo to legislative candidates spelling out how they can call for impeachment hearings for Gov. Rod Blagojevich -- with talking points that compare corruption under the governor to a tumor that must be removed.
The 14-page rundown of Blagojevich's alleged "misdeeds and malfeasance" is sure to deepen the feud between the two Democrats and lend substance to talk of impeachment. A memo sent to some House Democratic candidates, obtained Tuesday by the Associated Press, offers detailed talking points on the merits of impeachment.
"One thing we learned from the (imprisoned former Republican Gov.) George Ryan case is that we should excise a tumor when it is first discovered; not leave it in the body to continue to spread and do further harm," the memo reads.
Madigan spokesman Steve Brown said the Democratic Party of Illinois, which Madigan chairs, sent the memo to a "bunch of candidates" requesting more information about impeachment. It's not the viewpoint of Madigan or a House Democratic caucus position, Brown said, but simply more research for candidates who are interested in talking with voters about the issue. "There's issues that pop up," Brown said. "People can do with it what they want." The revelation comes as Blagojevich and other legislative leaders accuse Madigan of blocking an agreement on a capital construction program and not personally attending meetings with all the leaders on the capital program and an unbalanced state budget. The leaders and governor are scheduled to meet again Wednesday in Chicago.

G-Rod might be looking to run with the money with this talk of impeachment. Now the only question left is who will replace him. Madigan and his daughter Lisa are currently on the list for investigation for campaign fraud so the only question is are there any honest Illinois Leaders with no criminal background or who are not under investigation to run for the job? People seem to forget how they got where they are. Life does take turns and those who did it right have a future. Madigan has done his crimes to get where he is but he's all over G-Rod. Lisa got her appointed job with qualification but uses the knowledge of others to look good. Politics is funny as people sometimes want a do over because of the misstep/crime they committed. Will an honest Illinois Leader step forward please.
