Breaking news: NBC reporter Tim Russert is dead.


Wow, what a shock...My condolences to the Russert family. Great reporter who passed away too young.

The New York Times is reporting that MSNBC's Tim Russert has died of a heart attack at the age of 58.

Russert suffered a massive heart attack and collapsed in NBC's Washington bureau, according to the New York Post

Tim Russert, NBC News’ Washington bureau chief and the moderator of “Meet the Press,” died Friday after collapsing, NBC News said. He was 58. Russert, the recipient of 48 honorary doctorates, joined NBC News in 1984 and took over the helm of “Meet the Press” in December 1991. Full story
He was at the studio working at the time he had the heart attack. He just returned from vacationing with his family in Italy. Brian Williams will cover Russert's passing on NBC news tonight.

I was shocked by this. I always felt he was the most capable and well-prepared newsman I've seen of late, this is a huge loss coming as it does before the 2008 election, when we need newsmen like Tim Russert, there are too many media whores and not enough newsmen.

I'm still in shock. As a viewer of Meet the Press I could agree and disagree with Tim. He got in to deep during the Bush years as how to stay in the middle. No person is perfect but Tim was admired by many friends and family. I will be real on Sunday morning when Meet the Press doesn't have it's host Tim Russert.
