Republicans vote against Mother’s Day.

Yes, folks, ridiculous!

Thinkprogress:

On Wednesday, the House took up the seemingly uncontroversial H. Res. 1113, “Celebrating the role of mothers in the United States and supporting the goals and ideals of Mother’s Day.” The resolution initially passed 412 to 0, until Rep. Todd Tiahrt (R-KS) rose in protest:

Mr. Speaker, I ask for a recorded vote because I’m sure every member wants their mother to know that they have supported the goals of Mother’s Day.
Tiahrt’s mother, however, may be disappointed to know that her son did not support Mother’s Day. He and 177 other Republicans decided to cast their vote against mothers. Watch it:
When asked why the GOP switched their votes, House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) said, “Oh, we just wanted to make sure that
everyone was on record in support of Mother’s Day.” (Even though he also was actually on record against Mother’s Day.) The Washington Post’s Dana Milbank reports that this move was a procedural tactic to “bring the House to a standstill.”

Update: Yeas and Nays points out that amongst federal lawmakers, Charlton Heston is actually more popular than mothers.

Update: Rep. Jeff Fortenberry (R-NE), the original sponsor of the bill, also ended up voting against it.

No surprise there as even the Media have attacked woman. What's sad is these men are teaching their son's to continue this action. I was shocked when the FCC allowed the B word to be used against Hillary and the other word used against her daughter. With all the so called respect of some Law Makers I noticed no one spoke up not even Obama. But I guess it's the old saying as long as it's not done to me who cares. This election will get heated up and I can see Mrs. Obama being called the b word or Mrs. McCain I wonder will the Senators speak up for their wives?

Leave it to another Republican from Kansas to embarrass the state again. I hope all mothers, their sons and daughters wake up and vote them out. Not all of us are asses in Kansas.
I hear you, airjackie, about the b word being used against Hillary and not a word was said. The media played that over and over, it is shameful.

Hard to tell about McCain sticking up for his wife unless it suits him politically-but my guess is he'll save the "c" word for more private use while he's running for prez.

I am sure Mrs Obama can stand up for herself and her husband could too.

Yes, these lame lawmakers are no surprise, but sheesh... they love hookers and hate their mothers? Or something weird like that.

McSame is the 'c' word, not the wife. She looks crazy.

You might be right PrissyPatriot as Mrs. Obama already said black folk will wake up and vote for her husband because he's black. I look for Americans to stand up and defend any such comments about Mrs. Obama as I know her husband would. I watched Mrs. Obama on the Today show and she even over stepped Senator Obama when he was about to speak. She showed she runs the house and her husband and she doesn't take anything from anyone. What a great First Lady who can brow beat anyone down like a real black Sister does. It can the girl out of the country but you can't take the country out of the girl. Hillary is just a professional strong respectable woman who uses her talent to fight for all. Mrs. Obama is right there in your face and don't answer back. She was in Hollywood and make sure if you didn't vote for her husband you weren't worth her time. As some people has disagreements with some things said.
