"They probably should have called the National Guard up in those days; maybe we'd have done better in Vietnam."--George W. Bush
In this vintage clip from 1988, George W. Bush, would-be Governor of Texas followed by 43rd President of the United States, shares with Connie Chung his stance on diverting draft-age men into National Guard service, in lieu of conscription and combat, during the Vietnam era.

He was a twit back then, talking like an ignorant twit, mispronouncing words.......sadly he has not matured since then.
Yup!
Hey, without Quayle, the hot things wouldn't have stayed hot and the cold things wouldn't have stayed cold. His job in the National Guard was not much different than a thermos.
That is kind of ironic that the National Guard are the ones getting sent into battle now. Unlike the Army and the Marines, the National Guard does not have the decades of experience or office infrastructure and personnel in dealing with PTSD, injured soldiers, families left back home, etc., etc.
And look who is making those decisions on sending the National Guard, kittybowtie: The Draft dodger-in-chief and 5 deferrment Supreme Leader President Cheney!
Now what most of us forget is Bush really didn't know where he was most of the time during those days.
As a drunk and druggie it's was always flowers and blue skys until he came down from that high. Quayle is another example of how the Rich Familes protect the girly men/son's. Yes if Quayle had to go in combat he would cry like a little girl and be shipped home. Only men service in the military and woman who are brave. Take a look at all those calling for War and you'll see none served when they were called.
