TEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- Iran on Saturday blasted the United States for training certain terrorist cells in Iraq, saying that the measure has prevented the Iraqi government from establishing security and stability in that country.
Speaking to FNA in an exclusive interview in the northeastern city of Mashhad, Iranian deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Mohammad Reza Bagheri, said Iran has accepted to attend talks with the US only to discuss Iraq's issues.
The deputy foreign minister reiterated that Iran accepted to attend talks with the US in a bid to help the Iraqi people. "During the negotiations with the US, none of the issues related to Iran was discussed," he added. "In our talks with the US, we asked Americans why they could not restore security in Iraq despite the deployment of 150,000 US troops in that country.
We asked them why they ignored the supply of arms to certain groups and why they do not allow the Iraqi police to use advanced weapons," Bagheri continued. He also said that sheltering the terrorist group Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO), preventing the Iraqi government from dealing with all security issues, training of certain terrorists by the US and lack of control over the said terrorist groups comprised other questions that the Iranian delegation has asked the US team in the Baghdad talks.
Stating that Iran's stances on relations with the US would not change until Washington changes its bullying, hegemonic and aggressive stances, the official said hope can only be pinned on the resumption of Iran-US relations only when Washington gives up the said stances.
