OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - A 19-year-old handyman for a Black Muslim splinter group who police say admitted to gunning down an Oakland journalist investigating the group's finances is expected to be charged in his murder tomorrow.
Oakland Assistant Police Chief Howard Jordan tells the San Francisco Chronicle that Devaughndre Broussard -- 1 of 7 people arrested Friday in raids on Your Black Muslim Bakery -- has confessed to fatally shooting Oakland Post editor Chauncey Bailey.
The 57-year-old Bailey was gunned down near the newspapers' offices on Thursday.
Police continued to investigate whether other group members were connected to Bailey's slaying and two older murders.
The raids on the bakery organization capped off a yearlong investigation into an alleged series of violent crimes police said were connected to the group.
Oakland police have scheduled a press briefing for this morning (11:00) regarding the Bailey homicide and the search warrants served on Friday.
