The absolute nerve from Father Time McCain!
Claims diverting money to pet projects hurts infrastructure
From MSNBC:
ANKENY, Iowa - Republican John McCain said Saturday that Congress could share in the blame for the Minnesota bridge collapse because lawmakers diverted billions of dollars in transportation money from road work to pet projects.
"I think perhaps you can make the argument that part of the responsibility lies with the Congress of the United States," the Arizona senator said.
McCain said Congress spent roughly $20 billion on special-interest projects when it approved a new highway bill, signed into law by President Bush.
In August 10, 2005 on MSNBC:
MONTGOMERY, Ill - President Bush, saying it will help economic growth, on Wednesday signed a whopping $286.4 billion transportation bill that lawmakers lined with plenty of cash for some 6,000 pet projects back home.
With fanfare, Bush signed the more than 1,000-page highway bill into law at a plant operated by Caterpillar Inc., which makes road-building equipment. For the president, it was his second trip away from his Texas ranch this week to highlight recently passed legislation.
"If we want people working in America, we got to make sure our highways and roads are modern," Bush said. "We've got to bring up this transportation system into the 21st century."
But Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., one of four senators who opposed the bill, said the estimated $24 billion lawmakers directed to special projects was "egregious." He has cited dozens of what he calls "interesting" projects. His favorite: $2.3 million for landscaping along the Ronald Reagan Freeway in California.
Memo to McCain: Get the right info on the right Congress! The do-nothing squat 109th Congress, dominated by GOP, passed the transportation bill.

Yes, special 'pet projects' and pork to Haliburton like the war in Iraq cost too much tax dollars.
And just which side of that biggest, costliest pet projects of the Gerbil and his oil buddies were you on (and still are on), McCain!!!!!?????
The famous 109th Congress got over 6000 pet projects and Republicans controlled Congress. McCain is lying in hope the people of Iowa don't remember what really happen. It's an old trick sometimes it works. Now he will not get any money for his lie but at lease he's doing something. McCain was so close to being President but he was more loyal to the Republican party. Now he's a has been and will only be remembered for lying to the Tillman Family to protect the White House.
Someone should take a picture of Paris's doggie in a bag and Photoshop McCain's face on it, and put with the Gerbil. That is all I will remember McCain for, being the Gerbil's lap doggie.
"That is all I will remember McCain for, being the Gerbil's lap doggie."
