I received a letter from the chief of staff of U.S. Senator Tim Johnson of a thank you letter from his family and staff regarding his recent stroke. I had emailed him some time ago wishing him a speedy recovery and hopes for him to return to his job as Senator. Here is the letter word for word:
March 12, 2007
Thank you so much for your kind thoughts during Tim’s illness. The outpouring of care and concern has really meant a great deal to Tim, his wife Barbara, and their entire family during this important time.
Fortunately, Tim is responding well to treatment and is making steady progress during rehabilitation. Although there is still a long road ahead, your thoughts and prayers will certainly help him toward a full recovery.
As Tim’s condition improves, he is gradually starting to resume some of the Senate duties, reviewing briefing materials and providing our staff with guidance about legislative matters. While he continues to focus on his rehabilitation, our staff is working on issues importance to our state and to our nation as a whole. The federal budget and appropriations process is underway, the new Farm Bill must be negotiated, our national security must be guarded, and everything possible must be done to assist our American soldiers serving Iraq and Afghanistan. At the same time, it is important that we invest in South Dakota’s economy. From improving the No Child Left Behind Act to ensuring negotiated trade agreements are fair to working Americans, there is a great deal of work that can and must be done.
Our staff is continuing to work on these and other issues with Tim guidance, laying the foundation for Tim’s return to the Senate.
Again, thank you for your friendship and concern.
Sincerely,
Drey Samuelson
Chief of Staff for
U.S. Senator Tim Johnson
