Amount the Army paid last year “to attract and keep soldiers in the service, more than three times the total amount of bonuses paid before the Iraq war began. … Last year, the Army recruited 80,635 troops. To achieve that, the Army bolstered the ranks of its recruiters, raised enlistment bonuses to as much as $40,000 and allowed recruits with tattoos on their necks and hands to join. It also bumped the age limit twice.”
And now the Chimpster is panhandling for more money for Iraq. And where is that money really going to?

Love the media reporting. Two years ago 40,000 was the lowest about offered as soldiers relisted were told oops that was a mistake. Yes only after they signed were they told that's not the about they would get. Oh the reasons was lack of money. Now we hear this bull again. Tricks do work and now even in writting means nothing when it comes to contracts. This is a way of tricking young kids by holding out money only to say later we don't have enough. The money went to Iraq/Afghan.
Of course we have Harriet Meirs visiting colleges and saying there are a lot of good careers in the Military.
Now they are going to expand a tour of duty from 12 to 15 months.
Unfortunatly a lot are in the military because of not being able to get a job anywhere to support their families, and the way things are going for the middle class there may be more entering the military for this reason.
