Who Fed the Poison Pill? And Why Did it Run Unchecked?

Has the Washington Post been fooled (again) by high-level ‘leakers’? It sure looks that way.
On Tuesday, March 20, the Post ran a front-page article on the DOJ-U.S. Attorneys scandal that led off:
U.S. Attorney Patrick J. Fitzgerald was ranked among prosecutors who had ‘not distinguished themselves’ on a Justice Department chart sent to the White House in March 2005, when he was in the midst of leading the CIA leak investigation...

The item was sourced to unnamed “administration officials” who gave it to two WaPo reporters “yesterday.”

This juicy lede graf was followed up:

The ranking placed Fitzgerald below "strong U.S. attorneys..." but above "weak U.S. attorneys who...chafed against Administration initiatives, etc.," according to Justice documents.

The major problem with this story? It’s not true. The Department of Justice never 'ranked' U.S. Attorney Fitzgerald negatively or as 'undistinguished.' According to sworn testimony by D. Kyle Sampson, today in the Senate Judiciary Committee, Fitzgerald was rated 'very strong' internally in the DOJ.

So who fed the Post that story? And why did they run it without pinning it down (actually confirming it!) first?...

More on the story.

Sales that's why. Fitzgerald is a hot name now and the press will print anything. Next you'll read Fitzgerald was married to a 60 year old black lady with white hair name Jackie. Randall was the best man and Lisa Lisa Cult Jam was maid of honor. The press will print anything. Even an idiot can see why Fitzgerald was on the hit list as he busted Rove/Libby/Cheney. That action didn't serve the President. Only a dumb scared person like Karl Rove would think of firing him in the middle of the Libby Trial. As for Kyle Sampson poor answer it was his idea why? Who had reason to get rid of Fitz? The timing of the firing was right in time to stop Libby from going to trial. To bad Gonzales didn't work fast enough. But I do think he brought it up in with Judge Walton as Ted Wells did his best to bring in the White House to save Libby by any means necessary.

Not to worry Patriot Girl
Now Bush isn't so supportive of Gonzales when speaking about the problem. The Gerbil is slowly backing away for his friend Al. This is how the GOP show friendship. When one is in trouble and your not from the right family your soon forgotten never to be remembered again. Look it's down to who get's kicked out Karl Rove vs Al Gonzales. Case closed Bush will do his best to save Karl Rove, Gonzales is HOSED.
