U.S. President George Bush says he will veto an emergency spending bill for the war in Iraq because opposition Democrats attached a timetable for the withdrawal of troops there. White House Correspondent Scott Stearns has the story.
President Bush says House Democrats have shown they are willing to undermine gains he says U.S. troops are making in Iraq in order to score political points in Washington.
“The purpose of the emergency war spending bill I requested was to provide our troops with vital funding,” he said. “Instead, Democrats in the House, in an act of political theater, voted to substitute their judgment for that of our military commanders on the ground in Iraq.”

The bill provides $95 billion for U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan with a September 2008 deadline for the withdrawal of most American forces in Iraq. The legislation moves up that timetable if Iraq’s government does not meet political, security, and economic benchmarks.
Repeating his vow to veto the legislation, President Bush says the bill has no chance of becoming law.

I hate to quote David Brooks but .......he said most people in this country have accepted this as a civil war and there is little support left to continue.
OK, I have to agree with him here, I think David is swinging more and more to the left these days.
Also I watched a local news program with breast cancer specialist from a Chicago Hosp. and a reoccurance of breast cancer is not good, and when its in the bone it is uncurable and the only thing that can be done is to stop it from getting worse.
Be careful about David Brooks and his comments. He is like a pair of underwear: he changes his thoughts and support every day. Brooks has no creditabilty to me as a journalists. I like Mark Shields on PBS. Check out Shield's commentaries on Fridays on the Jim Lehrer show.
Yes, I like Mark Shields too.
I don't know why but, I watching watching Fox news again and a republican stratigist was on saying that the Republican's lost the last election not because of the war, not because of Bush, but because they did not accomplish a lot of Republican agenda's........ok...I know you are shaking your head...I've warned her it's FAUX news but after watching the George Sr w/Harriet on CSPAN w/ Harriet telling the college kids that there are a lot of good career opportunities in the military, and if she were a young college kid she would seriously look into the military.........ok...and during all of the Fox news it kept flashing "fair and Balanced" maybe that is a subliminal for the viewers
No more Fox News for you, Chicago Native. Don't fill your intelligent head with garbage from the garbage makers.. Yes, I am shaking my head...
