Attorney General Alberto Gonzales dashed out of a Chicago news conference this afternoon in just two and a half minutes, ducking questions about how his office gave U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald a subpar rating.
Gonzales, who increasingly faces calls for his resignation, was here to promote a new ad campaign and had planned a 15-minute press availability. He left after taking just three questions over a firing scandal consuming his administration.
Before leaving, Gonzales said he wanted to "reassure the American people that nothing improper happened here."

UPDATE: At yesterday’s appearance in Denver, reporters were barred from asking any questions.
Yup.. couldn't face Fitzgerald or the media...

What surprises me is why he is even agreeing to press conferances. What does he think is going to happen especially in Chicago?
Gonzo went to Chicago to ask Fitz for help. There was alot of interference in the Libby case by Gonzales. Lisa the unqualified Chicago Director of the DOJ doesn't know what she's doing as her Dad got her the job. So in comes Gonzo to fight for the friends of the White House. Now Gonzo doesn't want Fitz to talk no problem it will come out anyway.
It was just show and tell for Gonzo to try to take the heat of the DC press pool from Gonzo's scandal. It was a waste of time for him to be in Chicago to pandhandle for the cause of children since he still hasn't said anything about his own mess in Texas. Of course, Gonzo don't want to talk to Fitz. What is Gonzo going to say to Fitz: sorry that I screwed you on the your performance review and I tried to yank you out of the jobs as Special Prosecutor and U.S. Attorney? No. The little germ is not man enough to admit his mistakes to Fitz. Be a man, Gonzo!
