Hmmm.. Interesting that Libby's lawyers are asking prominent people to write a "nice" Libby letter... When Martha Stewart who had a billion dollar business was convicted of her crimes, she reached out to the everyday working class folks to write to the judge.
Attorneys for former top White House Adviser I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby urged supporters of the convicted aide to be nice and steer clear of partisanship in letters of support they might write to the judge who will decide his jail sentence, according to a column in today's Washington Post.
"Many friends and admirers of Scooter Libby have asked how they may submit letters of this kind," Jeffress reportedly wrote.
Jeffress encouraged Libby's potential supporters to steer clear of politics in their letters to Judge Walton.
"It is not acceptable...to criticize the jury, the prosecutors, or the court, or to denigrate any person involved in the process including the witnesses," Kamen reports the memo says.
Jeffress also suggested that letter writers make their eminence known up front in their missives to the judge.
"'Identify yourself in the...opening paragraph,' Jeffress advises, and give "your personal background.' For example, 'president,' 'vice president' and so on. 'This is essential if the judge is to give your observations the weight they deserve,' Kamen writes. More on the story.

How many people are going to get paid to write letters, or sign a letter written by someone.
Will these letters be public reocrd? If so who would want it known they wrote a letter?

Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton, both already under siege for other matters, are now being accused of failing to prosecute officers of the Texas Youth Commission after a Texas Ranger investigation documented that guards and administrators were sexually abusing the institution's minor boy inmates.
Among the charges in the Texas Ranger report were that administrators would rouse boys from their sleep for the purpose of conducting all-night sex parties.
Good article, Jan!

Good question! We shall see what Judge Walton's decision about the letters. It is interesting that Scooter is not allowing the everyday people who are pro-Libby to write the judge.
Now remember you guys Judge Walton knows what the real deal is. First the normal way of writing a Judge is to do it directly not by the Attorneys. As was done with Martha Steward. The only comments that will have weight is the ones that go directly to the Judge. Wells played a trick on Judge Walton during the trial he's wise to him now. I sent a letter to the Judge that had the Martha Steward trial not to Martha.
That is beyond maddening what went on in Texas with these children. Everyone involved should be held accountable for it.
