interviews with Justice Department officials about the U.S. Attorney scandal, including with Deputy Attorney General Paul McNulty, will begin Friday.
Update:
House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers (D-MI) has reached an agreement with the Department of Justice that “will make available seven DOJ officials for transcribed interviews behind closed doors.”
The interviews begin Friday with Michael Elston, chief of staff to Deputy Attorney General Paul J. McNulty.
Elston is the only one of the seven scheduled so far.
The others on the list are McNulty, Associate Deputy Attorney General David Margolis; director of the
Executive Office for United States Attorneys Michael Battle; Monica Goodling, the DOJ’s liaison to the White House; acting Associate Attorney General William Mercer; and Assistant Attorney General William Moschella.
Goodling, who is currently on personal leave, announced through her attorney this week that she would invoke the Fifth Amendment against self-incrimination if she is subpoenaed to testify. It was not clear if she would do the same for the transcribed interviews behind closed doors.
CNN reports, “Conyers’ spokesman said the interviews are a first step and not in lieu of a hearing.”

It's down hill from here. All of the witnesses will take the 5th to protect themselves and WH. With the mess about Gonzo lying and the future criminal matters that come to light will bury the GOP. Notice how the Saudi's have bailed out and Iran is using the Bush Policy with the Brits. Now watch others that once sucked up to the Bush Administration slowly back away. Watch countries use the lies Bush has told to their advantage. Watch the Middle East get stronger and push the US out with the US big businesses too. The Middle East played their cards right and waited for the weakest drunken President to take over. They knew years ago that if they could get George W. Bush in office they could take control. Now they don't need him anymore. Looks like the players got played.
