U.S. Attorney Kay: 'I Was Ordered to Resign'

Will others like Kay come forward and speak the truth?

SEATTLE (AP) -- Former U.S. Attorney John McKay said his resignation was ordered by the Bush administration without explanation seven months after he received a favorable job evaluation.
"I was ordered to resign as U.S. attorney on Dec. 7 by the Justice Department," McKay said Wednesday in a telephone interview from Washington, D.C. "I was given no explanation. I certainly was told of no performance issues."

McKay, who had led the Justice Department's Western Washington office, previously said only that he was resigning because it was time for him to move on.

His comments came one day after Deputy Attorney General Paul McNulty acknowledged to the Senate Judiciary Committee that the Justice Department had fired seven U.S. attorneys in the West in the past year, most of them for "performance-related" reasons he would not divulge.

Update:

Rep. Rahm Emanuel of Illinois, chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, yesterday sent a letter to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, demanding that he appoint the recently fired U.S. Attorney in San Diego as a special counsel so that she can continue overseeing a congressional corruption probe.

Carol Lam, appointed in 2002 as San Diego U.S. Attorney, was among at least seven U.S. attorneys recently dismissed by the Justice Department. Ms. Lam supervised the investigation and prosecution of Republican Rep. Randy “Duke” Cunningham, now in federal prison for soliciting bribes. That case led to related investigations, including inquiries into a businessman who also had dealings with Rep. Jerry Lewis, the California Republican who until recently was chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, and into Kyle “Dusty” Foggo, the former third-ranking official at the Central Intelligence Agency. Both individuals deny any wrongdoing.

Rahm Emanuel of Illinois, chairman of the House Democratic Caucus,

He is in a tough spot, he worked for the Clintons, and supported Barak Obama and he has a lot of people backing him in a caorner trying to see if he is going to support Barak or Hilary. He is between a rock and a hard spot here, but of course the press won't leave him alone on it either.
No way will I drive down to Springfield for the Obama announcement, there is a lot of black ice (ice you can't see on the Interstate) that has people flying off into ditches. Plus it is 3-3 1/2 hour drive one way anyhow. Yes I would love to be there but no go.

I was listening to the radio today talk about Eddie Murphy's new movie, special effects are really good (he has his head on others bodies) but it's about a group that grew up in an orphanage together and now they are adults, some are pimps, one is a bad strerotyped asian, a fat obnoxious black women, and other bad sterotypes, acting and special effects are good, poor taste on content.

It is good for Emanuel to wrote Gonzo and ask Lam to be the special counsel. At least, he tried. I heard about Murphy's new movie, Norbit. I have no desire to see that movie. What a way to come out with that movie when he is nominated for an Oscar for Dreamgirls.
