WASHINGTON –- With ceremonies Friday in both Michigan and California, the U.S. Postal Service will unveil its stamp in honor of President Gerald R. Ford.
A Grand Rapids resident, Ford died last year and is Michigan's only president. While typically it takes five years following a person's death for them to be considered for placement on a stamp, presidents can be considered within a year.

The 41-cent first-class stamp is expected to remain in circulation for at least a year, depending on demand.
At the ceremony Friday in Palm Desert, Calif., Ford's widow, Betty Ford, will join Postmaster General John Potter in unveiling a 10-foot image of the Gerald R. Ford commemorative stamp as part of its first day of issue. Simultaneously, at 1 p.m. eastern time, a ceremony will be held at the Ford museum in Grand Rapids, where the former president is buried.
