From Wall Street Journal:
Former Enron CEO Jeffrey Skilling was arrested and accused of public intoxication in Dallas earlier this month, reports the Houston Chronicle. Though a technical violation of the terms of his bail bond, he won’t go to jail.
On the night of the arrest, Skilling had drinks with dinner at a Mexican restaurant and then went for a walk, according to his lawyer Daniel Petrocelli. Dallas police reportedly arrested Skilling at about 1:45 a.m. on Sept. 9, near a condominium he owns. He wasn’t drinking and didn’t resist arrest, said the report. Public intoxication in the Big D is a misdemeanor, subject to a fine of up to $500 but no prison time. He was assessed a $385 ticket and was held briefly in a city jail.
This is his second post-indictment alcohol-related run-in with the law. In early 2004 he got into a scuffle at a New York bar and was later found to be legally intoxicated.
Skilling will be sentenced on Oct. 23; he faces 20 to 30 years in prison. Said Petrocelli: “Jeff is doing the very best he can to deal with a nearly impossible situation.”
