103-year-old woman nearly evicted from home

ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Fulton County sheriff's deputies arrived at the home of a 103-year-old woman on Tuesday to evict her and her 83-year-old daughter.

"I love it," said Elvinia Hall of her home on Penelope Street in Northwest Atlanta. "It's a mansion."

Hall and her daughter, Kathleen Cornelius, have lived in the home for more than 50 years.

The ordeal was so stressful for Cornelius that paramedics rushed her to the hospital with breathing problems.

Hall's grandson told CBS Atlanta he failed to make several mortgage payments, and the home went into foreclosure.

"I am the person who is responsible," said Ali Muhammad. "I take full responsibility in this, but beyond that they don't need to be thrown out of their home, no matter what."

Sheriff's deputies and a moving truck that had also arrived left after television crews showed up.

A spokesman for one of the banks involved said the family foreclosed in 2008 and the case had been in litigation since then. Georgia's Court of Appeals finally ruled in the bank's favor late last year.
