Happy 75th anniversary; Open thread.
FDR created the UI program on August 14, 1935 by signing the Social Security Act. The Act provided benefits to retirees and the unemployed [UI program], and a lump-sum benefit at death. Isn't ironic that today is the 75th anniversary of a bill that many of in the Republican party are trying to change such as trying to raise the retirement age, privitizing Social Security, and cutting Social Security? Obama signed another unemployment extension bill for the unemployed last month, the same bill in which the Republican party, for 7 weeks, blocked the bill for a Senate vote.
