Judge finds Kilpatrick guilty, hints that May 20 sentencing will bring jail

Kwame Kilpatrick faces the entire array of potential punishments, from a shorter leash all the way to years behind prison walls, now that Wayne County Circuit Judge David Groner has found the former Detroit mayor violated his probation.

What follows is Free press reporter Jim Schaefer's live blog from the hearing.

Late development: Attorneys are called back in

2:54 p.m. Judge Groner just called the attorneys in for a closed-door meeting and said they would be going back on the record afterward.

No reaction to ruling from Kilpatrick

2:39 p.m. Kilpatrick, who is sporting a new goatee, showed no reaction to Groner's ruling.

But the audience did. When Groner mentioned that it's possible Kilpatrick will get a prison sentence, someone yelled out, "Amen."

The deputies in court just escorted a woman out from the back row. Kilpatrick turned and watched as the officer led her away.

Groner set a sentencing date of May 20. Prosecutor Siringas pressed Groner on why he has to wait, saying that tons of information was disclosed during the hearings. But prosecutors also have not requested a specific sentence.
