Suspected Austin Pilot's Past Racked By Tax Problems

A software engineer accused of crashing a small plane into a Texas Internal Revenue Service office had ties to Placer County and tax problems, records show.

Records show the pilot, identified as Joseph Stack, had a post office box at a Lincoln business. A woman at the business told KCRA 3 she forwarded mail to Stack in Texas.

Employees at the Lincoln airport also said they have record that Stack purchased fuel there. The last time he fueled up there was in 2002, they said. The airport manager did not have a record of Stack housing a plane at the airport.

The California Franchise Tax Board told KCRA 3 that the license of Stack's Software Systems Service Corporation was suspended on June 1, 2004, for not paying taxes in 1996 and 2002.
