Bloomberg:
Jan. 10 (Bloomberg) -- The U.K.’s Financial Services Authority will force bankers who earn more than 1 million pounds ($1.6 million) a year to defer 60 percent of their bonuses for three years, The Sunday Times reported, without citing anyone.
As many as 5,000 bankers may be affected by the restriction, the newspaper said. The 1 million-pound threshold includes salary and bonus, The Sunday Times said. Only payment of the bonus will be deferred, the newspaper reported.
The government has already decided to levy a 50 percent tax on all bonuses valued at more than 25,000 pounds, The Sunday Times said. About 40 billion pounds in salaries and bonuses is expected to be paid by the worlds’ biggest banks in the coming weeks, the newspaper reported.
