Bin Laden Rebukes U.S. on Climate Change — Osama bin Laden, the leader of Al Qaeda, blamed the United States and developed countries for not halting climate change and said that the global economy should immediately abandon its reliance on the American dollar, according to an audiotape released Friday by the broadcaster Al Jazeera.

Tony Blair admits Saddam threat was overstated Tony Blair opened himself up to a charge of misleading Parliament today when he told the Iraq inquiry that by any objective analysis the threat posed by Saddam Hussein's chemical and biological weapons programme had not increased after 9/11. Appearing as the star witness before Sir John Chilcot's panel, the former Prime Minister stressed the transformation of US and UK foreign policy after the attacks of September 11, 2001, an event that he said had changed the "calculus of risk" for the transatlantic allies. However, as part of that analysis Mr Blair conceded that the threat posed by Saddam Hussein's purported programme to develop weapons of mass destruction (WMD) had not actually grown -- only the understanding of that threat.

Economy grows at fastest pace in 6 years --GDP data show 5.7 percent rate in Q4, a quicker pace than expected The economy grew at a faster-than-expected 5.7 percent pace in the fourth quarter, the quickest in more than six years, as businesses made less-aggressive cuts to inventories and stepped up spending. The Commerce Department said on Friday its first estimate put fourth-quarter gross domestic product growth at its fastest pace since the third quarter of 2003.
A federal judge in Washington is blocking a joint request from the Justice Department and the defense lawyers for a group of former Blackwater security guards to keep sealed hundreds of pages of transcripts from hearings that led to the dismissal of charges.
