Iraq inquiry: Gordon Brown given 'special treatment' Gordon Brown will be questioned by the official inquiry into the war in Iraq but not until after the general election, prompting accusations that ministers are being given "special treatment". The plan to summon Mr Brown to give evidence was revealed in a statement from the inquiry team working for Sir John Chilcot. The statement listed witnesses who will be called to give evidence to the inquiry next year, who include Tony Blair, the former prime minister, and Alastair Campbell, his former spokesman.

Guantanamo may have to stay open until 2011 The prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, may not close until 2011 because of anticipated appropriation struggles in Congress, the need to change federal law and construction time to upgrade an Illinois facility to hold prisoners. The Thomson Correctional Center may not be purchased from the state until March and will need up to 10 months of construction said Joe Shoemaker, spokesman for Sen. Dick Durbin, who represents Illinois in the Senate.
