Politicians gone wild: New American Idol version; Open thread.

And some politicians should just keep their daytime jobs or serve prisontime...

1. Bush Shakes His Groove Thang
President Bush gets down and boogies alongside African dancers at a White House event promoting Malaria awareness. Let's just say he dances about as well as he speaks.

2. Tom DeLay Shakes His Booty on 'Dancing With the Stars'
Former House Majority Leader and indicted criminal Tom DeLay appears on ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" and cuts loose to "Wild Thing," doing the cha cha in his orthopedic shoes, sliding across the stage, playing air guitar, and shaking his booty at the camera.

3. 'MC' Karl Rove Raps and Dances
Karl Rove (AKA "Bush's Brain") cuts loose in an impromptu rap performance at the 2007 Radio & TV Correspondents' Dinner. As Politico reported, "His arms flailed, he mugged, he shimmied, he crossed his hands, he backed it up, his BlackBerry became a prop, his voice went guttural, he took it up an octave."

4. Colin Powell Sings 'YMCA'
Former Secretary of State Colin Powell dons on a hardhat and stuffs a hammer in his belt as he sings a rousing version of "YMCA" by the Village People during an Asian security summit in Indonesia. Powell was backed by five other U.S. officials, all imitating the flamboyant outfits of the 1970s disco band.

5. The Singing Senators Wow the Nation
The Singing Senators were a group of GOP Senators who performed as a barbershop quartet, until they fell on hard times. John Ashcroft lost his re-election bid to a dead man; Larry Craig was arrested for soliciting bathroom sex; Trent Lott was ousted as Majority Leader after retroactively endorsing Strom Thurmond's segregationist presidential bid; and James Jeffords left the GOP after realizing his colleagues were insane. But they could belt out "Elvira" like it was no one's business.

6. Rod Blagojevich: Worst Elvis Impersonator Ever
Rod Blagojevich does to Elvis what he did to the Illinois governor's office. The disgraced former governor performed "Treat Me Nice" at a Chicago street party, although as many have pointed out, "Jailhouse Rock" would have been a much better song choice.

7. John Ashcroft Sings 'Let the Eagle Soar'
Former Attorney General John Ashcroft soars as he's never soared before as he gives a waaay off-Broadway performance of a song he wrote called "Let The Eagle Soar."

8. Ted Kennedy Sings in Spanish
Sen. Ted Kennedy sings in Spanish to a Latino group. As Conan O'Brien joked, "There was an awkward moment when someone in the crowd pointed at Kennedy's head and said, 'Look, the pinata is singing.'"

9. Rudy Giuliani Dances With the Rockettes
Former New York City mayor and cross-dressing fetishist Rudy Giuliani wears fishnets and high heels while performing leg kicks with the Radio City Rockettes in 2001. Sadly we weren't able to find the video clip, but we will always cherish the photos.

10. Barack Obama Dances With Ellen
Barack Obama appears on the Ellen Degeneres show during the 2008 presidential campaign and busts a move alongside Ellen. As Obama joked, "It's a low bar but I am pretty sure I have better moves than Giuliani."

11.
Hillary Clinton Butchers the National Anthem
The mic catches presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton at an event in Iowa singing what may be the most off-key rendition of the National Anthem ever recorded.

12.
Bush Sings Farewell Song
President Bush surprised guests at the 2008 Gridiron roast when he appeared on stage wearing a cowboy hat and gave the first and only public singing performance of his presidency. Bush serenaded the Beltway elite with an off-key rendition of "The Green Green Grass of Home," in which he sang about his return to Texas.
