I know people who lived in Atlanta during that, and the congestion was just unbelievable, Chicago is already very congested, even on public transportation. I heard that one to two weeks before the congestion started, with all the media, atheletes etc already there. So it's a month at least.
Maybe it would have created more jobs, maybe it would have helped with tourism for years to come, maybe it would have not cost as much, maybe it would help spur development, and rennovations etc.
Most people in this town have gone both ways on this.
Hosting the Olympics in Chicago would have created jobs, increase tourism, and increase revenue in Illinois as well as this country as folks in this country would hop on a plane to Chicago. But, it wasn't in the cards for Chicago. It would have be nice. What I don't like is that the bobbleheads and wingnut media badmouthing Obama for going to Copeahagan to pitch for Chicago. The Gerbil [Bush]would have gone there if Texas was chosen for a Olympic bid. He would have been there in a heartbeat. This was not about Chicago nor about Obama. This was about bringing jobs and revenue to this country.
Someone had to win and someone had to lose. And this is the first time Brazil will host the Olympics.

I just read the results. Sorry for Chicago. Congrats to Brazil. And looks like there will be fun, sun, and thongs for the 2016 Olympics.

Also Brazil was one of the first to recover economically.....don't know if that factored in, or we are getting Imbecile/DArth backlash still.
