U.S. Attorney Alice Martin of Birmingham announces resignation

U.S. Attorney Alice Martin of Birmingham will resign Friday.

Martin, who is U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Alabama, said she told her staff this morning. She said she is crafting her resignation letter to send to Washington.

Martin, who prosecuted some of the biggest public corruption cases in Alabama history, has been at the helm of the U.S. attorney's office for the past eight years. Martin successfully prosecuted abortion clinic bomber Eric Robert Rudolph and several Jefferson County and state public officials.
