China is number 1.

Number one auto market, that is.

Sales of vehicles in China hit a record last month, underlining the country’s rise in the market as carmakers in the US scramble to avoid bankruptcy.

Chinese people eager to leave behind the age of the bicycle bought 1.10 million vehicles in March, up some five per cent from the previous record of 1.06 million in March last year, data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers showed.

The number cemented China in its position as the world’s largest car market, outstripping even the US.

And India, also thanks to the US outsourcing is right behind them.

Also markets up today because of China (at least early today) now the US is the world leader thanks to the last administration.
I would hear older people say made in Japan was terrible back in the day, something to avoid, now it's not been the case as long as I can remember.

Yeah, Third, decades ago Japan made all the cheap junk no one wanted except just to save money. Now they make good stuff. If China figures how to make quality stuff that isn't loaded with lead, worldwide manufacturers better take note.
