Pentagon Spending Billions on PR to Sway Domestic, World Opinion As it fights two [illegal] wars, the Pentagon is steadily and dramatically increasing the money it spends to win what it calls "the human terrain" of world public opinion. In the process, it is raising concerns of spreading propaganda at home in violation of federal law. An Associated Press investigation found that over the past five years, the money the military spends on 'winning hearts and minds at home and abroad' has grown by 63 percent, to at least $4.7 billion this year, according to Department of Defense budgets and other documents. That's almost as much as it spent on body armor for troops in Iraq and Afghanistan between 2004 and 2006.

Ministers 'misled' judges over torture evidence Evidence that a British resident was tortured before being flown to Guantanamo Bay may yet see the light of day after senior judges hearing the case were told yesterday they had been misled by the Government. The Foreign Secretary, David Miliband, argued on Wednesday that national security could be compromised if secret CIA documents detailing the interrogation of Binyam Mohamed were placed in the public domain. His comments came after the High Court refused to order the disclosure of a CIA dossier referring to the treatment of Mr Mohamed, 31, who was arrested as a terrorism suspect. It said that to do so would put the British public at risk because America had threatened to withdraw co-operation in terror cases.

DeMint Bill to Block Funding for Guantanamo Bay Closure U.S. Senator Jim DeMint made the following statement after he joined U.S. Senator James Inhofe (R-Okla.) and others in sponsoring the Guantanamo Bay Detention Facility Safe Closure Act. The bill would prohibit the use of any federal funds to transfer detainees currently being held prisoner at U.S. Naval Base Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to any facility in the United States. In addition, the bill would prohibit any funds to modify or construct any facility in the United States to house enemy combatants detained at Guantanamo Bay.

Before anyone goes wacko the documents against the Gitmo detainee were all fake. Yes our CIA lied and made false documents against this man and kept him in Gitmo for 7 years while torturing him. Now before anyone says SO. The reason given was they thought he might know something about other matters and then because he was tortured so bad they held him so the US wouldn't be seen as War Criminals. Now even the young man held in the UK is innocent but if his fake documents are released the World would see just how Horrorible this 8 year crime spree really is. Many Americans feel it should just be put behind us and move on. I ask, what if this were done to Americans would we want to quickly put it behind or demand Justice? President Obama is going to have to do alot more apologizing for the next 4 years as the crimes come to light.
