Pakistan ex-spy chief: U.S. wants him on terror list A former head of the Pakistani military's Inter-Services Intelligence agency said Sunday the United States wants him on a U.N. list of people and organizations linked to 'al Qaeda' and the Taliban. Long retired, Lieutenant-General Hamid Gul told Reuters the U.S. moves against him began several weeks ago, pre-dating the latest controversy surrounding the ISI. Gul, a vocal critic of the U.S. military presence in Afghanistan, said Pakistani foreign ministry officials had confirmed to him the United States was trying to put him on the U.N. list.

Dodd Calls for Firing GM's Wagoner, Chrysler Merger Senate Banking Committee Chairman Chris Dodd said General Motors Corp. Chief Executive Richard Wagoner should be replaced as a condition for federal aid and Chrysler LLC may have to merge to survive.

McCain warns Pakistan of Indian strikes US Senator John McCain has said he believes that if Pakistan does not act against individuals and groups linked to the Mumbai Terror attacks, it could be a "matter of days" before India carries out surgical strikes against such elements. There is enough evidence of the involvement of former Inter-Services Intelligence officers in the planning and execution of the Mumbai attacks and terrorist training camps are still operational in Pakistan, McCain told a small group of senior Pakistani journalists at an informal lunch in Lahore on Saturday.

On His Way Out, Bush Leads Others In On Tuesday alone, Mr. Bush hired 18 people "to serve in his administration," a White House news release said. The appointments and nominations mostly involved multiyear terms to small boards and commissions that most Americans have never heard about. All told, Mr. Bush has made roughly 30 personnel moves since the November election, some in nominations that will require Senate approval, and others in direct appointments that will last well into President-elect Barack Obama's term and beyond.
