AP: Obama to Tap Shinseki to Lead VA Dept
President-Elect Obama will reportedly nominate retired Gen. Eric Shinseki to lead the Veterans Affairs Department. Shinseki, one-time Chief of Staff of the Army, was famously shunted aside by Bush administration officials after testifying to Congress that many more troops would be needed to stabilize post-war Iraq than the administration planned to send. Then-Deputy Secretary Paul Wolfowitz called Shinseki's claims "wildly off the mark." But his prediction proved prophetic.
On a side note: Shinseki, remember, was the Army Chief of Staff forced into early retirement by Bush and Rumsfeld for not lying to Congress about how many troops it would take to win the peace in Iraq.
