The question that media should be asking rather than sensationalize the Blago probe is did Obama's staff and Obama himself, participated in the pay-to-play scheme with the Illinois governor according to thw USA probe. What is revelant is whether Obama and/or his staff had conversations with the Illinois governor with relation to the criminal complaint and/or whether they were participants of the pay-to-play scheme.
Today's Chicago Trib contains the latest, including part of the shortlist of Obama-approved candidates for his own Senate seat:
Rahm Emanuel, President-elect Barack Obama's pick to be White House chief of staff, had conversations with Gov. Rod Blagojevich's administration about who would replace Obama in the U.S. Senate, the Tribune has learned....Emanuel delivered a list of candidates who would be "acceptable" to Obama, the source said. On the list were Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett, Illinois Veterans Affairs director Tammy Duckworth, state Comptroller Dan Hynes and U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky of Chicago, the source said. All are Democrats.
Notice that Senate candidate #2 Lisa Madigan and Senate candidate #5 Jesse Jackson Jr. weren't on Emanuel's short list.
