Our family has been through a lot. Some caused by nature, some caused by human weakness, and some – most recently – caused by the desire for sensationalism and profit without any regard for the human consequences. None of these has been easy. But we have stood with one another through them all. Although John believes he should stand alone and take the consequences of his action now, when the door closes behind him, he has his family waiting for him.
John made a terrible mistake in 2006. The fact that it is a mistake that many others have made before him did not make it any easier for me to hear when he told me what he had done. But he did tell me. And we began a long and painful process in 2006, a process oddly made somewhat easier with my diagnosis in March of 2007. This was our private matter, and I frankly wanted it to be private because as painful as it was I did not want to have to play it out on a public stage as well. Because of a recent string of hurtful and absurd lies in a tabloid publication, because of a picture falsely suggesting that John was spending time with a child it wrongly alleged he had fathered outside our marriage, our private matter could no longer be wholly private.
The pain of the long journey since 2006 was about to be renewed.
John has spoken in a long on-camera interview I hope you watch. Admitting one’s mistakes is a hard thing for anyone to do, and I am proud of the courage John showed by his honesty in the face of shame. The toll on our family of news helicopters over our house and reporters in our driveway is yet unknown. But now the truth is out, and the repair work that began in 2006 will continue. I ask that the public, who expressed concern about the harm John’s conduct has done to us, think also about the real harm that the present voyeurism does and give me and my family the privacy we need at this time.
And there you have it. John and Elizabeth Edwards released their own statements on the John Edwards' affair with Ms. Hunter. Ms. Edwards is a true fighter and admirable as being a cancer survivor as well as picking up the pieces to mend her family together in this scandal.

Obama addressed Edwards confessed extramarital affair.
"The Edwards family indicated they probably wouldn't be attending the convention. But this is a difficult and painful time for them" he says.
Final thoughts: There is so much talk on blogsphere of a possible extortion of hush money and criminal attempts in the Edwards-Hunter saga. Keep in mind that Edwards was no longer a Senator but a Presidential candidate according to the timeline of the affair. Edwards was Senator from January 6, 1999 to January 3, 2005. Edwards said he met Rielle Hunter in 2006 -- after she was hired as a campaign videographer. The affair was in 2006. Edwards launched his presidential campaign in December, 2006. Now we learned that Fred Baron, the man who helped bankroll Edwards' presidential run, paid money for Hunter to leave NC and relocate to CA due to media hounding her on this scandal. Baron said "I made a decision on my own, without talking to Edwards or anybody, to try to help them move to a community to try to get away from those folks." Baron used his own money – not campaign funds – but did not disclose how much he provided. In a nutshell, Edwards is guilty of infidelity not a criminal act. But, this will not stop the media for sensationalizing this story and making it bigger than what it is not. There are more important issues in this country than worrying about whether Edwards' career is finished or whether Elizabeth Edwards going to leave her husband. The media did the same thing with Elliot and Silda Spitzer and Bill and Hillary Clinton. This country is an emotional and financial mess that need a fixin'. Good luck to the Edwards family. And I hope that the Edwards family can heal from this bombshell and move on.

You do have to worry about Ms Hunter, here she was playing around with another married man at the same time, Baron. If it was just Edwards in that time frame it would be a different picture, but Hunter was obviously throwing herself out there pretty good, yet that does not dismiss Edwards behaviour.
It's hard enough to have this type of strain on a relationship, but they had to deal with it in the Public. It just seems this is getting more common these days as many are too busy with work to spend time with their families.
Being away from home frequently has always been a problem, understandably Elizabeth chose to, as she should, stay home with their young children.
TGCN let's do the adult math. Edwards had the affair in 2006 and the child is 5 months old. Last I knew it took 9 months to have a baby or has that changed too. Look Edwards isn't the Father but the GOP just needs him to lost his votes in this election.
Now as for him having an affair while married let's see how many men haven't had an affair. Yes woman have had affairs as that's why Desperate Housewives is such a hit show. Now Laura Bush has her Texas millionaire boyfriend which we see no problem with. Most of the male Law Makers hire prostitutes or look for sex from men in the men's room and let's not forget those who molest kids. If a Christian follows the bible a sin is my thought, word or deed, how many men can calm they have never done either. Woman have always looked at men and some have done more then look.
It's' so easy to judge Edwards behavior but are we perfect? The affair was against Mrs. Edwards not the American people. I've lived to see every President of the United States have affairs so what does that mean for the qualifications of a President. FDR the longest running President had affairs, Reagen had affairs, Daddy Bush has a mistress, JFK had affairs, you know Brother Bill and now Bush who has not only had affairs but one woman who filed a complaint was found dead. Now Ms. Hunter is getting child support from the Father of her child who admits it's his kid. But it sounds better to keep saying it's John Edwards child. Saying it doesn't change the facts that it would take 15 months for this lady to have had this child with Edwards.
Now if Americans believe this then we are finished and education is out the window. No need to teach sex education if adults don't understand it. This was done to damage Edwards let's see if it works. I'm waiting for McCain to say something as he left his wife and kids for a rich woman and has even had an affair with a young woman two years ago, but I guess that's ok.

A very good point! Folks, keep in mind that. Craig and Vitter are different on the other hand because:
1. Craig promoted anti-gay bills yet caught cruising the bathroom with an undercover cop. If you read and heard his excuse, he was very hypocritical.
2. Vitter promoted family values yet he used Palfrey's escort services and had sex with prostitutes. Notice that media only says that Vitter's name was on a call girl service but won't say that this man had sex with five prostitutes according to Larry Flynt. So, Vitter was being hypocritical to his people in his states while doing the do!
My old saying is this: Those who judge will be judged.
The question to the public should be was Edwards' affair against the American people? You know the answer to that. Yes, the media the GOP will have a frenzy over Edwards. But, those who condemn, criticize, and protest some much of these sex scandals including Edwards, Clinton, Vitter, and so on from the talking heads and media, my message to them is that you better make sure that your laundry is squeaky clean and that there is no skeletons in your closet!
