DETROIT -- A judge has decided to take numerous prosecution documents in the criminal case under Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick -- including hundreds of new text messages -- under seal until he decides July 14 whether they accessible to the public.
The decision came Thursday from 36th District Court Judge Ronald Giles. Both Kilpatrick and Christine Beatty, his former chief of staff who was romantically linked to him in text messages, were in the courtroom.
The prosecutor had notified the defense attorneys that documents would be filed with the court Thursday to verify the identity of participants in numerous text message conversations, and that the content of those messages would be attached to pleadings in the court's publicly accessible files.
More on the story.
