TPMtv: Panties torture.

This lawmaker has issues..

TPM:

We posted yesterday on Rep. Dana Rohrabacher's curious reduction of torture to frat-boy-like panty raids, in a House subcommittee hearing on the FBI's role in interrogations of detainees at Guantanamo Bay.

Here is a bit of information to connect with Rohrabacher:

During the summer of 2001, Congressman Dana Rohrabacher (who was also close friends to Abramoff) made a trip to Qatar that was paid for by the Islamic Institute and the Government of Qatar, according to Rohrabacher’s financial disclosure forms. While in Qatar, Rohrabacher, Grover Norquist , and Khaled Saffuri met with Taliban Foreign Minister Mullah Wakil Ahmed Muttawakil. Wakil reportedly asked for help in increasing the amount of foreign aid sent by the United States to Afghanistan , apparently in exchange for U.S. oil company UNOCAL being allowed to construct of an oil pipeline through Afghanistan.

That video makes me wonder about people who try and diminish--something extremely serious like the US record on torture. In his attempt to minimize-- the repugnant and shameful actions of the torturers and indeed ridicule-- those who think this is a serious lapse of judgement on the part of the United States government to allow such actions, Rohrbacher shows his arrogance and ignorance and his lack of respect. He knows damn well that those particular actions were taken to show disrespect to those captives, for whom those kind of actions are taboo under the precepts of their religion. They were researched and tried out. He thinks they should not show any respect to those prisoners who were not even allowed a fair trail who were kept incommunicado for years without counsel or representation. The actions our government took in the treatment of prisoners showed extreme disrespect for habeus corpus and for the Constitution. People who diminish and minimize or even make a joke out of things like this are showing their ignorance and arrogance. Some people, like Rohrbacher, don't believe in God or a Higher Power, or The Universe or in anything above their own egos and it shows. People like that tend to worship power and money and that shows too. We know what bandwagon he's on, the ones he still thinks have the power and money to win. How wrong he is.
