ALBANY - An internal audit by the State Police recommends changes to the governor's security detail but doesn't address how then-Gov. Eliot Spitzer apparently eluded troopers guarding him to allegedly meet a prostitute at a Washington hotel, officials said yesterday.
The review, promised to senators by Police Superintendent Harry Corbitt at his confirmation hearings last month, never was intended to probe Spitzer's alleged conduct and whether troopers were aware of it. That's part of an ongoing probe by federal authorities in Manhattan, according to knowledgeable sources.
"There was never an investigation into any circumstances or specific situations involving the executive detail," said Police Sgt. Kern Swoboda. "This wasn't an investigation, it was an internal audit of the policies, procedures and protocols of the detail."
The police audit won't be made public because it could endanger the governor's security, but Corbitt's spokesman said a synopsis would be released once the recommended changes have been implemented.
But one Republican senator was disappointed the audit didn't go further, saying Corbitt had promised a thorough review of troopers guarding the governor.

Spitzer was set up with the help of the State Police on the GOP pay roll. Now when Pataki's dirty dark secrets come out it will shock people. Pataki was on a crime wave of corruption all four terms as Governor and as we see those involved are killing themselves or as the Mafia would say swimming with the fishes. Pataki gave the smoke screen of Politics. He looked, smelled and talked clean but he was the dirtiest of them all. More cops and employees of New York will be killing themselves because so people can't live with a lie others the Pataki crime team will finish them off and make it look like they killed themselves. Look the New York Mafia taught these guys very well. Rudy fought the Mafia to get the top job and then join the Mafia to keep the top job. These deaths are planned to look like suicide and because people believe anything they buy that story too.
Spitzer got to close to the big crime wave and the people involved. Big Businesses and Powerful people were involved in high crimes with Gov. Pataki in charge. Now Pataki did his share of crimes yes even murder was involved. When the real story comes out Gotti will look like a Saint compared to former Gov. Pataki. The crimes in many States is wide spread even here in California Gov. Arnie was put in as part of the GOP's involvement in the Enron Crimes. Arnie was the GOP puppet to help cover up the fact that the Republicans and White House were working with Enron to steal and defraud California by over charging and it worked well. Notice how there's no investigation in California on Gov. Arnie's part in the Enron Scandal.
